Foundations Homework due September 14

This is your homework for the week. If you have a question about your homework, first ask a parent or older sibling to help you. After asking them and you still need help, ask either Sister LaMont or Mrs. Hamberger for help. You can find our information in your binder on the front page.

Timeline

Add yourself in your timeline book on the year that you were born. You can write your name at the spot or you could draw a picture of yourself. Do whatever you prefer! If you finished this in class then go to the next part of your homework!

Presentations

Everyone will get a chance to give a presentation in our class. It’s ok to be nervous! You can do it! Your presentation should be 3-5 minutes long. Do not just stand and read something because that can be boring. Include a picture or do a quick activity or play a game or create something at home and show us during your presentation, something that will help us remember who your presentation is about. Click here to sign up for a presentation. Check with your mom to make sure the day you choose will work for you.

Book Reading

Start reading one of the two book choices. If you are reading The Peacemaker read chapters 1-3. If you are reading Children of the Longhouse read chapters 1-2.

Book Discussion Question

In your binder there is a tab called “Book”. Open that up and write one question that you would want to ask a friend after finishing your assigned reading. Maybe it’s not a question but it could be something like, “Isn’t it interesting that…..” There are other ideas of things you could write on the paper.

Read the Declaration of Independence

Read the Declaration of Independence. It’s in your binder under ”declaration”. You only need to read the part we highlighted in class. You can read more if you want though! Ask a parent or older sibling to read it to you if you need help. There are big words in there so its ok to ask for help!

Opinion Paper

Each week you will be given a question to answer. There is not a right or a wrong to the answer that you give. This is a chance for you to think for yourself and say what YOU want to say. You can ask a parent for help but do not feel that you have to write what they say. This is your thoughts and your opinions! You can either type or hand-write your opinion. Don’t worry about spelling. The most important part of your answer is the thoughts that are in your head. Write or type whatever comes to your mind. Please write at least 5 sentences. And write your name and the date at the top of the page. We are excited to read what your opinions are!

The question to answer this week is:

History is told through the viewpoint or lens of the storyteller. Who do you know that tells stories? It could be a sibling, a parent, a grandparent, a friend, another relative. Write about a story that you remember them telling you. What does that story teach you about your storyteller?

Weekly Check-in

Fill out the Check-in sheet that is found in your binder under “check-in”. Staple your opinion paper to the check-in sheet. When you come to class on Thursday, you will give us your check-in and opinion paper. We will give it back to you the next week.
