Class Summary – Graphing Coordinates:

This week we learned about graphing coordinates. We learned a magic trick, played battleship, and took home some coordinate graphing pictures.

Homework for this Week:

• Print the Accountability Sheet and return it to class next week. If you are unable to print it, write down the information on a piece of paper to turn in during class.

• Work on your curriculum goal.

• To prepare for class next week, watch the following videos:

• Play a game with a member of your family or a friend. Here are some options:
  • New games this week:
    • Magic Grid Trick – see handout from class
    • Battleship
      • Additional guidelines:
        • Ships must be placed on integer coordinates (corners), not fractions or decimals.
        • Ships must be horizontal or vertical, not diagonal.
        • Do not place on the outside line. Keep it in the -6 to 6 range.
  • L.A.P. Game (mathgameswithbaddrawings.com) – This game is similar to battleship, but more challenging. You can try it online by yourself or using graph paper with a friend or family member.
  • Play a game we have already played in class.
    • Dandelions
    • Neighbors (5×5)
    • Boxed In
    • Tenzi
    • Tic-Tac-Toe Sums or Products with positive number or integers
    • Oddball
    • Hopping Hundred
    • Mancala
  • Rook: You can learn how to play Rook with your family using the deck of cards given in class.
  • Play another game with your family. Most games involve math is some way. Strategy and critical thinking are an important part of math, so those are awesome skills we can practice when playing games.
  • Play a game from this website:

• Optional: Complete the coordinate graphing pictures from class. For each picture you complete, you can get a prize from our treasure chest. I cannot link them due to copyright issues. But if you forgot to pick them up, you can get them from me next week. You can turn them in anytime before the end of the school year.
