Epic Ink: Engaging With Classical Literature and Essays

Welcome to Epic Ink: Engaging With Classical Literature and Essays, where we embark on an exciting journey through some interesting classic works of literature! This class is designed to ignite your passion for reading, sharpen your analytical and writing skills, and foster a deep appreciation for timeless stories. Throughout the semester, we will dive into a rich collection of classic novels, including "Animal Farm," "Frankenstein," "A Christmas Carol," "Romeo and Juliet," "To Kill a Mockingbird," and another book still to be determined. These masterpieces will serve as our gateway to exploring diverse themes, historical contexts, and literary techniques.

What to Expect:

  • Reading Classic Works: Immerse yourself in the world of literature by reading and analyzing significant texts that have shaped literary history. You'll learn how to use literary devices to explore themes, characters, and the impact of these works on society. 
  • Writing Exploratory and Expository Essays: Develop your writing prowess through a series of essays that encourage critical thinking and articulate expression.

Materials Required

Students will need to purchase a digital copy of Bravewriter’s Helps for High School for $80, print it out and put it in a three-ring binder. If you have siblings in the class together, they can share one writing manual.

Students will also need paper or a notebook for taking notes, a pen/pencil, and access to Google docs and the Internet since we’ll be submitting papers electronically.

Homework

Expect 3-5 hours of homework each week for this class. Homework will include a lot of reading, a lot of writing, researching, journaling, watching videos, prepping for presentations/class activities, etc.
